Circle A (2024)

Circle A proposes anarchy as a response to order, placing emphasis on the word ‘response’. Three performers in tap shoes work within the constraints of a Circle A symbol, responding to a live drummer and fragmented sound score. Over 45 minutes, they develop a tight set of actions, accompanied by lesser and greater degrees of agency, creating unpredictable relationships between them and the audience.

Eoghan Ryan is an Irish interdisciplinary artist working across performance, moving image, puppetry, installation and collage, exploring how power circulates socially and through mediated culture. His process involves long periods of documentation. His work has been presented internationally, including at IMMA, De Appel, Busan Biennale and Serralves.
